Village Vanguard Diner

There are many hamburger shops in Japan.
Of course, there are fast-food chains like McDonald's and Burger King, but Japan is also home to many specialty burger joints that take great pride in their craft.
In the small neighborhood of Shimokitazawa alone, there are several such shops.
These places are meticulous about their buns, patties, and vegetables, offering truly delicious burgers.
The longest-running among them is the Village Vanguard Diner here in Shimokitazawa.
The interior has a stylish, "Old American" vibe.
Unfortunately, though, I only took photos of the food. Haha.
So, let's start with the French fries.

There are a few different types of french fries, but I went with these this time.
They have a crispy exterior and a fluffy, tender interior.
The harmony of potato flavor, oil, and salt is simply the best. Haha
And here is the main event: the hamburger.
I decided to go with the cheeseburger this time.

This is seriously delicious.
For starters, the meat is amazing.
It’s a patty packed with meaty flavor and overflowing with juices.
The original buns are tasty, too.
And then there are the vegetables tucked inside—
tomato, lettuce, and grilled onion.
They use incredibly fresh vegetables—the kind that would be delicious even just as a salad.
Great meat, great veggies, and great bread.
In short, it’s just delicious. Haha
Oh, and this place isn't just famous for hamburgers; they’re well-known for their pancakes, too.

Here are the apple and whipped cream pancakes.
These fluffy, soft pancakes—a Japanese specialty—offer an exquisite texture.
The maple syrup isn't overly sweet, creating a perfect balance with the tartness and crisp texture of the apples.
They are every bit as delicious as the hamburgers.
If you find yourself in Shimokitazawa and crave a truly authentic hamburger—rather than a McDonald's one—you should definitely give this place a try.
You can savor a delicious hamburger that embodies the Japanese "slow food" philosophy.
