150 years ago, on May 20, 1873, Levi Strauss & Co. obtained a patent for the use of metal rivets to reinforce pockets on clothing.
One year later, on August 25, 1874, Greenebaum Brothers, also based in San Francisco, obtained a patent for reinforcing stress points with leather.
Until the rivet patent expired in the 1890s, Greenebaum Brothers' pants were supplied as durable workwear throughout the mining boom from the West to the Midwest.
2024 marks Greenebaum Brothers' 150th anniversary. This collection recreates their original 19th-century design, the "Leatherbound Overalls," and their distinctive "Two-by-One Denim."
This pullover is part of the "GREENEBAUM Overalls" series.
This pullover has a straight silhouette, and pullover styles were popular as workwear at the time, and their straight patterns made the Green Baum fabric a perfect match.
It also features details finished with an all-single stitch (lock stitch), leather reinforcement for the side gussets, and a striped fabric similar to the lining of a suit sleeve used for the lining of the pockets, all of which have been meticulously reproduced.
The fabric is 10x10 sulfur-dyed selvedge duck stripe.
This light-weight denim is based on vintage denim from the period.
This three-button pullover jumper has a small collar with no stand collar.
The buttons use original metal buttons. There is a deep pocket on the left chest, reinforced with leather on both ends.
The slits on both hems and the notches on the sleeves are also reinforced with leather.
This item is simpler than it looks, so it can be worn with or without pants.
This denim shirt is a delight precisely because it is a design from over 100 years ago.
