FUTA-AI refers to a purple color created by layering indigo and safflower dyes.
This color has existed since the Heian period and was particularly used in the attire of the nobility.
At that time, purple was considered a noble color in the hierarchical system and was a forbidden color permitted only to a select few.
Characterized by the subtle hue created by the interplay of the depth of indigo and the vibrancy of safflower, the Japanese have cherished the beauty of this delicate color and incorporated it into their clothing.
At D'Artisan, we have recreated this traditional Japanese color, FUTA-AI, and created original denim.
The warp threads are dyed with a layering of natural indigo and madder to express a deep purple color.
The natural unevenness inherent in natural dyes highlights the unique texture.
Both the warp and weft threads use 6-count slub yarn with a textured surface.
Woven carefully and slowly using a power loom in Ibara City, Okayama Prefecture, we have achieved a heavy, substantial finish with a unique texture.
Since ancient times, the Japanese have incorporated a variety of colors into their lives, in line with the changing seasons, finding beauty in them.
This denim, dyed with FUTA-AI, exudes a unique presence that combines calmness, elegance, and strength.
Based on the 1st type, the silhouette also has a vintage feel.
