[SUGAR CANE "SC16101" 14oz. 砂糖黍(SUGAR CANE) DENIM BLOUSE]
This denim blouse is crafted from SUGAR CANE’s signature “Sugar Cane Denim,” a unique fabric developed through the brand’s long-standing exploration of denim made with sugar cane fiber.
The 14oz. right-hand twill denim is woven with 6.5-count warp yarns and 6.3-count weft yarns. The fabric is composed of 85% cotton and 15% sugar cane fiber, creating an original denim that represents the distinctive identity of SUGAR CANE.
The color of the denim was newly developed based on aged Japanese vintage textiles. The fabric already possesses a distinctive character in its loomstate form and will continue to develop unique fading and texture with repeated wear.
At first glance, the design recalls a vintage Type I denim jacket, commonly known as the “1st,” but its most distinctive feature is the pair of large chest pockets. Inspired by details found on U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps uniforms, the symmetrical pocket design gives the jacket a character distinctly different from a conventional Type I.
The flasher is inspired by “Ranji,” decorative labels once used for Japanese tea exported overseas from the late Edo period through the early Showa era. These elaborate export tea labels were historically produced using woodblock printing techniques by ukiyo-e craftsmen.
While rooted in American vintage denim jackets, the SC16101 incorporates elements unique to SUGAR CANE: original denim blended with sugar cane fiber, a color inspired by aged Japanese textiles, and a flasher referencing Japan’s historic export culture.
