A velvet sukajan from Tailor Toyo, the original souvenir jacket brand.
A limited edition to be released in the New Year of 2025.
In honor of the snake, which is the zodiac sign for the Year of the Snake, the snake-skull pattern, which is by far the rarest in the world of vintage sukajan, has been reproduced.
This design, which depicts a threatening poisonous snake baring its fangs along with a skull, is commonly known as the "snake-skull."
There are very few vintage pieces left in existence, and they are traded on the market for unbelievable amounts of money.
Of these, this snake-skull design with a rising dragon on the sleeve, made in the mid-1950s, is particularly rare and a collector's item.
While there are skull patterns that make use of colorful embroidery threads, this piece is made entirely of pale-colored threads based on white, creating a sophisticated monotone finish that stands out in contrast to the jet-black velvet fabric.
It also features longer crossbones than other skull patterns, and not only the design but also the needlework of the embroidery is reproduced based on valuable vintage items.
The reversible motif is a dragon and tiger showdown. The dragon is strangling the tiger with its long body, and its face is peeking out from the depths of Mount Fuji, creating a unique pattern on a grand scale.
Furthermore, the red lightning bolt drawn between the two glaring at each other gives the impression of a fierce battle.
With an eagle on the chest, the three main motifs of the Sukajan - eagle, dragon, and tiger - are all present.
Both sides are a very luxurious combination.
Many early souvenir jackets were reversible acetate, but there were also models made of fluffy velvet fabric as a variation from that time.
The padding was added to increase warmth, and the acetate on the reversible side was quilted to hold the padding in place.
