The Viet-Jean is a popular item at Tailor Toyo every year.
Like the Sukajan that emerged in post-war Japan, the Viet-Jean is a souvenir jacket that originated during the Vietnam War in the 1960s and 1970s.
It is primarily made from two types of fabric: cotton twill or a camouflage-patterned poncho liner, and features patterns or embroidery in thick, matte colored thread.
This particular jacket was custom-ordered by a US soldier stationed at the port of Cam Ranh in southern Vietnam in the mid-1960s.
A deformed panther's face is depicted on the back.
Most Viet-Jean jackets in existence today feature map patterns, making it rare to find one with this type of embroidery.
The jacket also features a Vietnamese landscape on the right chest, the three characters for "Fukurokuju" (meaning "long life" or "happiness") on the left chest (usually just "Fuku"), and a larger dragon on the sleeve than other Viet-Jean jackets, all recreated based on extremely rare vintage pieces.
With slightly narrow armholes, this item is simpler than it looks, so you can have fun coordinating it with your outfit.
The outer fabric is cotton and the lining is rayon, so it feels pleasant against the skin and is a piece that you can enjoy for its texture, feel and feel.
