TCB JEANS "Lined Late S40's Jacket" 13.5oz 40's DENIM JACKET
TCB JEANS "Lined Late S40's Jacket" 13.5oz 40's DENIM JACKET
[TCB JEANS, Lined Late S40's Jacket]
For the past few years, we have been releasing lining denim jackets and coveralls at this time of year.
It all started when we wanted to make workwear for people who work outside in winter or in environments where air conditioning is not available.
When TCB was first established, we didn't have heating at the company, so we used to wear down jackets to work, but in my line of work, the down jackets would quickly get covered in indigo and the cuffs would get worn out.
So I was also eager to make workwear that would make people look forward to winter.
At the beginning of this year, I was thinking about what to do for the next winter lining project.
Meeting vintage items can sometimes be a miraculous coincidence, so I had a plan in my head: "If I could meet that JK, I'd like to recreate it," but I couldn't find her.
Of course, from a business perspective, we get a great response every year, so we should make something every year, but as I wrote at the beginning, we started because we wanted to make it, and if we made something because we had to make it, we wouldn't be able to make something good.
So, since I didn't come across it at the time, I decided to postpone the lining project this year.
In the midst of all this, as you all may remember, we announced the Late S40's in the summer.
We were able to make it because Koizumi-san actually provided us with a war model of flannel pockets.
At that time, we asked the fabric store to reproduce the flannel fabric for the pockets with the same heat as the denim fabric.
It is a bespoke flannel fabric that was made by taking color beakers many times.
When we successfully announced the Late S40's in the summer, I brought up the following topic in a chat with Koizumi-san.
"So, are there really no war-era denim jackets with linings?" I asked him. The answer was "The lining of the 506 (519) dates back to 1951, and the lining of the 213 (219) dates back to 1930."
After that, I had the opportunity to see a price list from the war period, and although it's a fantasy, it actually lists S219 on the price list from the war period. (It's strange why it was only No2 at first.)
I thought that the 519 from the war period didn't exist after all... but technically it was made using No2 denim.
That's the story, and this time, I started the project because I wanted to use the same pattern for the lining of the flannel pocket pants so that they would be a set, even though it would be ignoring historical accuracy.
However, the fabric for the pockets of the pants is 100% cotton, which means it's not as warm as the lined denim jackets I've had up until now, so I asked a fabric store to make it with a cotton-wool fabric that is 80% cotton and 20% wool.
Dimensions: 30/2 x 30/2, 3/1 (left twill). The thread count and color are the same as the flannel for the pants.
I wasn't sure whether to write this here, but I got permission from XX DEVELOPMENT, who has been helping us with the linings up until now, to write about it.
As I said at the beginning, we decided not to plan our annual project using the Schonherr loom this year because of our encounter with Vintage, so this matter is unrelated, but...
The Schonherr loom that has been weaving the linings up until now is currently not working due to the operator's poor health.
We have been promoting the product using sales pitches such as "old-fashioned manufacturing" and "veteran craftsmen...", but we are keenly aware of the difficulty of continuing to make the same things.
I hope to hear the sound of the Schonherr again next year.
Of course, I hope that the indigo rope dyeing, power looms, and TCB sewing machines are still in operation.
The lining project for 2024 will be announced as Lined Late S40's.
※Regarding size
We recommend that you choose your size based on the size chart of the regular Late S40's Jacket, which has no lining.
Since it has a lining, the size chart for the outer dimensions is numerically less than that of the unlined jacket, but we have made it so that the fit when worn is the same for both the lined and unlined jackets.
The photos of each TCB staff member wearing the jacket also show them wearing the same size.
For details on the size worn, please see the Late S40's Jacket product page.
※Other
The denim fabric and sewing method are the same as the Late S40's Jacket.
Please check the image section for details on the sewing method and fabric.
The above is an excerpt from the TCB JEANS website.
※Notes※
- Metal fittings such as buttons, rivets, zippers, and buckles may injure the body or other objects, so please handle with care.
- Because denim is woven on old-fashioned power looms, there may be unevenness, small scratches, or balls in the fabric. However, these are not defective products but genuine products, so please understand that we cannot accept exchanges or returns.
- Jeans may have creases. These may have been caused when the jeans were stored by our store, or by the manufacturer when they were stored, but in any case, creases from folding are not defective products but genuine products, so please understand that we cannot accept exchanges or returns.
- Denim may transfer color, so please be careful when washing and what you wear with it.

*This size chart is taken with one-wash items measured flat.
We lay them on the floor, smooth out any wrinkles, and measure the fabric flat.
The size numbers will vary by a few centimetres depending on the individual item, the measurement method, and the amount of force used.
The size chart is therefore only a guide and may differ from the actual numbers.
