[UES "502451" EXTRA HEAVY FLANNEL SHIRT]
A yarn-dyed check shirt that weighs over 15 ounces.
The original UES fabric with selvedge is 100% cotton, but has a wool-like volume and deep color.
Because the fabric is woven with very thick threads, there are only a limited number of looms available in Japan, and because an old-fashioned shuttle loom is used, the amount that can be produced per year is limited, making this a valuable fabric.
The reason for using old-fashioned looms is to weave slowly without pulling the warp threads too hard, in order to bring out the original texture of the thread.
Although this slows down the production speed, it allows for a soft and bulky fabric to be produced.
The hem of the shirt is finished with piping, and it is intended to be worn untucked from the pants. Because it is woven using a power loom, the selvedge of the fabric can be seen on the left front edge of the front body. Even in Japan, which is well-known for fabrics with selvedge, there are only a few shuttle looms that can weave such thick fabric, making it a very rare product.
Regarding the pattern of the fabric, the check pattern is made large to give it an outerwear feel.
When cutting the parts, multiple skilled craftsmen work together to match the pattern. The larger the pattern, the more fabric is needed for one garment.
Matching the patterns makes the finished product look beautiful.
The attention to detail extends to the buttons. We use horn buttons carved from buffalo horns.
Although they are less strong than resin buttons, we use them because of their excellent color and texture. They are based on black, and come in dark and light brown colors, so there are no two that are the same. Some of them have slight imperfections in shape, but we hope you will understand this as the individuality of natural materials.
A spare button is sewn onto the washing instructions, so please remove it and store it away.
