This is a flannel shirt from Warehouse.
Warehouse flannel shirts are made using power looms, which are only found in limited areas of Japan.
The reason we use power looms to make flannel is not simply to make "flannel fabric with selvedge", but rather, the selvedge is a by-product. The purpose is that by using power looms, we can finish the fabric without losing the texture of the uneven yarn.
Just like denim, the yarn used to weave the fabric of vintage flannel shirts was uneven at the time. If you weave that yarn with strong tension on an innovative loom, it will become a different fabric. The original properties of the yarn will be lost.
By weaving on an old-fashioned power loom, we can weave the fabric without losing the unevenness of the original yarn.
The power looms used to weave flannel shirts are twill looms, just like denim. Since flannel shirts need to be patterned, they are designed to weave multi-colored yarns. The warp threads move up and down in a complex way according to the pattern, and shuttles carrying weft threads of different colors move back and forth between them, taking turns.
In this way, flannel is woven with the right tension typical of power looms, and becomes a fabric without compromising the unevenness inherent to each thread.
The flannel fabric that is made into a fabric is brushed on the back, following the manufacturing method of the time.
Brushing the fabric gives the pattern a soft look. Further brushing creates volume in the fabric, making it even softer than the feel of a power loom.
In this way, flannel woven on a power loom has a texture that can only be created by reproducing the thread itself.
The simplest way to tell is by the presence or absence of selvedge (edges), and Warehouse uses selvedge on the gusset, just like vintage flannel shirts up until around the 1960s.
Because it is a simple pattern, it matches a wide range of outfits. It is one of the patterns you will want to have.
