[WARE HOUSE "Lot 3104 B" Flannel Shirts B (2025)]

WAREHOUSE's flannel shirts are made using power looms, which are still found in only a limited number of regions in Japan.
The reason for using power looms to make flannel fabric is not simply to create selvedge flannel; the selvedge is merely a by-product.
The purpose is to use power looms to finish the fabric without compromising the texture of the slub yarn.

Just like with denim, the yarn used to weave vintage flannel shirts was uneven and slubby. Weaving this yarn with high tension on an innovative loom would result in a different fabric, losing the yarn's inherent properties.
Weaving on an old-fashioned power loom allows for the fabric to be woven without compromising the yarn's natural texture.
The power looms used to weave flannel shirts are the same twill weaving looms used for denim. Because flannel shirts require a pattern, the loom is designed to weave multiple colors of yarn.
The warp threads move up and down in a complex pattern, while shuttles carrying different colored weft threads move back and forth, switching places one after the other.
In this way, flannel woven with the appropriate tension characteristic of power looms retains the inherent slubby properties of each yarn.
Flannel fabric is then brushed on the reverse side, following the traditional methods of the time.
Brushing gives the pattern a softer appearance. Further napping creates volume in the fabric, elevating the unique feel of power loom weaving to an even softer level.

Thus, flannel woven on a power loom possesses a texture that can only be achieved by recreating the yarn itself.
The simplest way to distinguish it is by the presence or absence of selvedge (edge), and just like vintage flannel shirts from around the 1960s, Warehouse also uses selvedge in the gusset area.
With its simple pattern, it matches a wide range of outfits.
It's a pattern you'll want to have in your wardrobe.
