In 1880—an era before the terms "jeans" or "denim" even existed—the "Waist Overall" emerged as a variation of the standard work overall, designed to be worn suspended by suspenders.
BIG JOHN has now recreated this "Waist Overall."
The material used is American Sea Island Cotton, an exceptionally rare variety of cotton.
Highly prized by the British Royal Family since the late 16th century, Sea Island Cotton boasts the world's finest fiber length and delicacy.
By blending in over 70% "fallen cotton" (short fibers recovered during processing) from this premium variety, the fabric recreates the "neppy" texture and rugged character typical of denim's dawn in the 1880s. Its greatest appeal lies in a unique, uneven texture, a supple and high-quality feel, and a lustrous sheen with remarkable depth.
As it is undyed, the fabric retains the natural, slightly yellowish ecru hue characteristic of Sea Island Cotton.
You can enjoy the intriguing way the color fades, gradually becoming whiter with wear.
This garment allows you to appreciate rare vintage details, such as the silhouette, suspender buttons, and a cinch back.
While the fabric used for workwear in the 1880s was only around 9 ounces in weight, BIG JOHN has reinterpreted that era's texture to create a fabric with a substantial, sturdy feel.

A wide-straight fit featuring a high rise and a substantial cut.
While the waist and overall silhouette offer a roomy fit, it is a wide-leg style that features a distinct taper.
