Commonly known as the Tanker jacket, it was originally developed as winter combat clothing for armored units.
Due to a shortage of winter gear on the European front, it was used not only by armored units but also as a flight jacket. However, in 1943, the multi-purpose combat uniform M1943 Field Jacket was adopted, and the Winter Combat Jacket became a limited edition.
The outer shell is made of water- and wind-resistant cotton twill.
The liner is made of 26-ounce wool, with twin-needle overlock stitching at the sides and sleeves.
Pleats on both sides of the back prevent restriction of arm movement.
Two types of jacket are available: an early version with patch pockets and a later version with single-welt pockets.
The liner is made of wool blanket, so it is more insulated than it looks, making it a reliable piece for cold winters.
