Adopted in the mid-1960s, the M-65 is arguably the ultimate field jacket—the culmination of some thirty years of research, trial and error, and the accumulated wisdom and ingenuity of the U.S. military's development efforts.
The M-65 saw active service during the Vietnam War, proving its worth in the field.
Soldiers often customized these jackets—which shared in the hardships and triumphs of combat—by adding unit patches or embroidering maps of Vietnam, the site of fierce battles.
Some artistically inclined soldiers even applied hand-painted designs, transforming the otherwise simple, understated military uniform into a vibrant, eye-catching piece.
The back of this particular jacket features a dynamic, high-impact illustration of an Army soldier racing forward in a tank.
