[BUZZ RICKSON'S William Gibson Collection "BR16042(BR16042T)" World War 2 Black Denim Blouse]
Introducing Buzz Rickson's first denim jacket, a wartime model in black denim.
This denim blouse was created in response to supply restrictions imposed during World War II to alleviate shortages.
The pocket flaps of previous models have been omitted, and the number of front buttons has been reduced from five to four.
The "FOR THE DURATION" inscribed on the flasher means "for the duration of the war," indicating that specifications were changed due to material restrictions until the end of the war. In the 1940s, the US government awarded the E Pennant, standing for "Excellent," to companies that produced outstanding military supplies.
This model realizes the dream of a flasher that was awarded the E Pennant when Buzz Rickson served as a flight jacket contractor during the war. In keeping with William Gibson's worldview, the leather label is black foil stamped and the flasher is monochrome.
Details include a vegetable-tanned deerskin leather patch on the collar.
The buttons are iron donut buttons with an arabesque pattern.
Pleats provide mobility. The pleat stitching on the left side of the garment starts and ends at the top, while on the right side it starts and ends at the bottom.
Pocket stitching gives a handmade feel. There is selvedge on the inside of the facing.
Cufflinks feature a vertical grain. The look changes when worn horizontally.
The original 13.6oz. denim has a texture that makes it easy to wear, and the more you wear it, the more its texture improves.
The silhouette is slightly shorter in length to recreate the original style.
*Sizes 46 and 48 are T-backs.
*This item has been pre-washed, but may shrink by an additional 1-2cm.
William Gibson Collection
This is the first black MA-1 produced by Buzz Rickson's to mark the brand's 10th anniversary. In the novel "Pattern Recognition" by world-renowned novelist William Gibson, the protagonist wears a "Buzz Rickson's Black MA-1" inscribed on his coat. The actual Buzz Rickson's Black MA-1 was born from the novel. Officially adopted by the U.S. Air Force in the 1950s, the MA-1's official color is sage green. However, this authentic black MA-1, crafted with military-grade parts and materials based on military specifications, is unheard of. This resulted in a buzz among authentic-looking customers. Even when each material is specified as black, each dyes differently. When these materials are combined into a single jacket, subtle color variations become apparent, highlighting the diverse materials used in a flight jacket.
