[GREENEBAUM OVERALLS (WAREHOUSE) "1229" 1900 4POCKET HEAVY LEATHER BOUND OVERALL (DUCK STRIPE)]
It was 150 years ago, on May 20, 1873, that Levi Strauss & Co. obtained a patent for the use of metal rivets to reinforce pockets in clothing.
One year later, on August 25, 1874, Greenebaum Brothers, also based in San Francisco, obtained a patent for reinforcing stress points with leather.
Until the rivet patent expired in the 1890s, Greenebaum Brothers' pants were supplied as durable workwear throughout the booming mineral mining boom, from the West to the Midwest.
Greenebaum Brothers will celebrate their 150th anniversary in 2024.
We have recreated their original 19th century design, the "Leatherbound Overalls," by recreating their distinctive original "Two-by-One Denim."
Duck Stripe
More evidence has been discovered that sets Greenbaum Brothers apart from other West Coast workwear brands that were born and disappeared in the 19th century.
These thick duck stripes were made by Greenhaum in the 19th century as a salesman sample.
With authentic, real sewing, Greenbaum was developing not only denim but also such distinctive fabrics from an early stage.
This is because they had established a route to obtain imported goods from Europe to the East Coast.
Silhouette
The thigh area is not extremely wide, and has a neat straight cut.
The rise is slightly deep, making it very easy to wear and straight without any quirks.
The fit around the waist and the line that does not narrow at the knees make for a moderate hem width that fits both sneakers and boots.
Details
The rivet area was patented in 1874 and is reinforced with leather. The front pocket does not have a coin pocket.
The three-dimensional L-shape is also clearly an original feature. Greenbaum was also an importer and had a base in New York.
The leather reinforcement was likely heavily influenced by the 1873 rivet patent.
It is easy to imagine that consumers used this stress point as a point of comparison when purchasing, so various measures were taken in this area, including the use of thread rivets.
Regardless of the condition of the existing archives, most of the leather reinforcements are not damaged, so the strength of the reinforcement is considered to be reliable.
※Notes※
- Metal fittings such as buttons, rivets, zippers, and buckles may injure the body or other objects, so please handle with care.
- Because denim is woven on old-fashioned power looms, there may be unevenness, small scratches, or balls in the fabric. However, these are not defective products but genuine products, so please understand that we cannot accept exchanges or returns.
- Jeans may have creases. These may be creases from storage at our store, or from storage by the manufacturer, but in any case, creases from folding are not defective products but genuine products, so please understand that we cannot accept exchanges or returns.
- Denim may transfer color, so please be careful when washing and what you wear with it.
*This is a one-wash item.
Since it has been tumble dried once, there should be no significant shrinkage.
