[JELADO "SG71428" Rebel Jacket Horse Hide Semi Aniline Finish]
We've worked closely with the material to create a new leather jacket with a more vintage feel.
The vintage piece we used as the base was a 2 Star rider's jacket made by Wind Word, a brand of Montgomery Ward.
The original pattern would have been too awkward to wear today, so we created a pattern to suit modern styles.
This jacket has been a staple at JELADO for many years.
The newly developed material is approximately 1.6mm thick horsehide, tanned with a combination (chrome x tannin) process.
After chrome tanning, the solvent is washed away and the leather is tanned again, bringing out the best in the tannins and creating a material that gives the leather a nice depth and enhances its well-worn feel.
The base was dyed light brown, and then sprayed with black using a hill dyeing method at a long-established finishing factory in Tokyo.
This is what is known as brown-core leather.
To bring out the black even more this time, I used a semi-aniline finish, mixing half pigment and half dye.
The dye, which soaks up the color into the base, and the pigment, which forms a coating on top, match perfectly, resulting in a beautiful patina with wear.
The softness of the leather, which 100% pigment doesn't have, and the thin coating means the base color quickly shows through with wear.
To make a simpler rider's jacket this time, I did away with the epaulettes and used black cupra lining instead of quilting, making it a leather jacket that can be worn in spring.
The lack of quilting means it's not bulky, resulting in a more stylish leather jacket.

Please try on the item without bending the sleeves as much as possible.
