[STUDIO D'ARTISAN "S SD-101" 100 Series WWII Jeans]
In the early 1940s, during World War II, the United States needed to concentrate its national resources on the war effort.
As part of this, the Wartime Production Board imposed strict regulations on the manufacture of civilian consumer goods, including clothing.
In particular, cotton used in clothing and metal parts (rivets, buttons, etc.) were prioritized for military use, and workwear, including jeans, was greatly affected.
Under the guidance of the Board, details considered luxury items were thoroughly eliminated, and specifications were changed such as simplifying rivets, eliminating rivets on watch pockets, and replacing arcuate stitching with printed designs.
As a result, various parts of jeans were significantly simplified for wartime specifications, transforming into a rugged, practical design.
In addition, at that time, many skilled seamstresses were mobilized for military production, and it was common for less experienced workers to be assigned to jeans manufacturing. As a result, the sewing quality was rough, and uneven stitching and distortions were not uncommon. However, even re-sewing was restricted, so these products were shipped as they were.
D'Artisan, taking this wartime background into account, has meticulously reproduced the crude and pragmatic sewing specifications and simplified details of the time.
While deliberately reproducing the uneven stitching and "distortions" of the specifications, they have incorporated the dull indigo blue color reminiscent of oxidation and the rough texture unique to that era into their standard 100-series 15oz selvedge denim.
The tack buttons are made of iron laurel wreath, which will naturally rust over time.
The silhouette is a regular straight fit, model 101.
Denim
The thick 15-ounce denim fabric woven on a valuable old shuttle loom is characterized by its firm fit and dark dyed color.
Because these jeans are dark in color, it takes time to fade, but they have the characteristic of clearly showing whiskers and atari.
In addition, since the fabric is unprocessed and not sanforized or skewed, it shrinks and twists like vintage jeans from the 1950s when washed.
Silhouette
The silhouette is the most basic straight model among D'Artisan's products.
This model has a slightly deep rise and is roomy like an XX type, so it is a straight cut that anyone can wear regardless of style.
Details
Leather patch, laurel wreath buttons, herringbone pocket lining, yellow stitching.
The patch develops a unique character with wear. The front features a button fly and laurel wreath buttons, characteristic of wartime models.
The distinctive blue selvedge allows for a different look when rolled up compared to other denim.
