In the early 1940s, during World War II, the United States needed to concentrate its national resources on the war effort.
As part of this, the Wartime Production Board imposed strict regulations on the manufacture of civilian consumer goods, including clothing.
In particular, cotton and metal parts (rivets, buttons, etc.) used in clothing were prioritized for military use, and workwear such as jeans and denim jackets were greatly affected.
Under the guidance of the Board, details considered luxury items were thoroughly eliminated, and specifications were changed such as reducing the number of tack buttons from five to four and eliminating the flap on the chest pocket.
As a result, various parts of the denim jacket were greatly simplified for wartime specifications, transforming into a rugged, practical design.
In addition, at that time, many skilled seamstresses were mobilized for military production, and inexperienced workers were assigned to sewing workshops.
As a result, the quality of the sewing was rough, and uneven stitching and distortions were not uncommon, but even re-sewing was restricted, so these products were shipped as they were. D'Artisan, taking into account the wartime context, meticulously reproduces the rough and pragmatic sewing specifications and simplified details of the time.
While deliberately recreating the uneven stitching and "distortions" in the specifications, they incorporate the dull indigo blue hue reminiscent of oxidation and the rough texture unique to that era into their standard 100-series 15oz selvedge denim.
The tack buttons are made of iron laurel wreath buttons, which will naturally rust with age.
The back fabric is patched, a so-called T-back, a specification common to all sizes.
The denim is a thick 15-ounce denim fabric woven on a valuable old shuttle loom.
It is characterized by its firm feel and dark color.
Because this denim is dark, it takes time to fade, but it has the characteristic of clearly showing whiskers and fading.
Furthermore, because the fabric is unprocessed and has not undergone sanforized or skewed treatment, it will shrink and twist like vintage jeans after washing.
Made in Japan quality has been used to perfectly recreate the wartime model.
