The Toyota Automatic Loom Works GL3, manufactured half a century ago, is one of Japan's earliest power looms. Because replacement parts are unavailable, maintenance requires retrieving parts from discarded identical machines.
Maintenance is labor-intensive, and it's an inefficient loom, weaving only 5 meters per hour.
However, denim woven on this GL3 possesses a ruggedness and rawness reminiscent of denim from half a century ago, making it a unique loom capable of expressing denim for workwear.
D'Artisan's standard SD-1000 series 'GL3 series' utilizes denim made according to D'Artisan's original recipe, maximizing the characteristics of the GL3. This includes the yarn's texture, yarn count, color, and warp/weft thread count.
It possesses a unique unevenness and roughness that cannot be achieved with modern, efficiently and uniformly produced denim.
This is a masterpiece achieved through repeated trial weaving without any compromise.
Our popular GL3 series now comes in an unbleached version, where the yarn used in the fabric is not indigo-dyed, allowing you to enjoy the natural color of the yarn.
This unbleached denim jacket offers a different look than indigo denim, and repeated wear will bring a new way to enjoy denim.
