This piece was produced by Royal Hawaiian, a brand known for its distinctive oriental designs.
It's an extremely rare piece depicting a swarm of butterflies fluttering above the finely crashing waves.
In the early 1950s, based on sketches drawn by artisans specializing in Yuzen dyeing, the fabric was printed at a Kyoto textile factory, sent to Hawaii, and made into Aloha shirts for sale.
The material is rayon crepe, with a unique shallow, soft texture that feels different to wear than filament rayon.
The use of bamboo buttons further recreates the atmosphere of the time.
This is a meticulously crafted Japanese-made garment.
