Vaudeville was a form of theater that provided popular entertainment in America before the spread of film.
During its heyday from 1880 to 1920, New York and other major cities had numerous vaudeville theaters, which were bustling with activity.
The content was also diverse, featuring a wide variety of acts, including singing, dancing, comedy, and magic.
Many early silent film stars, such as Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Laurel and Hardy, and the Marx Brothers, were vaudeville alumni.
They traveled from theater to theater.
The 2 Monkeys "VAUDEVILLE" boots are inspired by vaudeville actors who were also traveling performers.
(They are not reproductions of any particular vintage boots.)
They were inspired by American and French boots from around 1910. These capped-toe boots feature a high toe (sometimes called a high-toe or bulldog-toe) and a waistband made of separate pieces sewn together above and below.
An original, slightly oblique toe last is combined with a small cap, large waistband, low height, and small heel to create the look and feel of boots from that era.
A combination of two manufacturing methods creates a tightly cinched waist, recreating the elegant shape of boots from that era.
The toe has a unique shape with lines, inspired by actors, who were accustomed to showing off.
The leather is smooth horsehide (horsefront), which retains its natural texture.
Because the leather is not heavily "finished," marks and blemishes may become visible with wear, but these, too, allow you to fully enjoy the horsehide's unique character.
The soft leather conforms to the foot exceptionally well.
Like the "SPORTIF," these boots are surprisingly lightweight.
Available in oak brown and black.
Oak brown has a deep, shady color, and you can enjoy the changes that occur over time as the black dye used in the finishing process fades.
