Vaudeville was a form of popular theatrical entertainment in America before the advent of motion pictures.
During its heyday—roughly 1880 to 1920—bustling vaudeville theaters thrived in major cities like New York.
The performances were incredibly diverse, featuring everything from singing and dancing to comedy and magic.
Many stars of early silent cinema—such as Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Laurel & Hardy, and the Marx Brothers—got their start in vaudeville.
These performers traveled from theater to theater.
The "VAUDEVILLE" model by The 2 Monkeys was created with the image of these traveling vaudeville performers in mind.
(It is not a reproduction of any specific vintage boot.)
It draws inspiration from American and French boots of the 1910s.
It is a cap-toe, derby-style boot featuring a high-profile toe—often referred to as a "high toe" or "bulldog toe"—and a quarter (side panel) constructed by stitching together separate upper and lower pieces.
We combined an original oblique-shaped last with a smaller toe cap, a larger quarter, a lower shaft height, and a compact heel to capture the distinctive aesthetic of boots from that era.
By combining two different construction methods to create a sharply tapered waist, we successfully recreated the elegant silhouette typical of boots from that time.
Reflecting the showmanship of the actors who wore them, the toe features a unique shape accented by a distinct line.
The leather used is horsehide (specifically the "front" cut), which is smooth yet retains its natural texture.
As the leather has undergone minimal surface finishing, natural characteristics like growth marks and minor scratches may emerge with wear; these elements allow you to fully appreciate the authentic nature of horsehide.
The leather is soft, ensuring an exceptional fit that conforms quickly to the foot.
Like the "SPORTIF" model, this boot offers a surprisingly lightweight and agile feel. Available in Oak Brown and Black.
Oak Brown features a deep, nuanced hue, allowing you to enjoy the way the black dye used in the finish fades over time.
The Black version utilizes "tea-core" leather with a smooth texture.
